WordPlay

Words have so much power. They can inspire people to do great things – like stop a war. They can make people laugh or cry. They can help us understand our world – like why people behave the way they do.

I love to play with words. I like to string them together in different ways, just to see what they can do. I like to polish them until they shine.

On these pages, I’ve brought together a sample of the writing techniques that I use to stretch my own writing muscles. I also use these writing games and ideas in my WordPlayers writing workshops with kids, teens, and adults. I hope these sample activities encourage you to explore new ways of writing and inspire you to create great stories, poems, rants, and more.

To get started, click on “How to WordPlay” then select any of the highlighted WordPlay games below. You can also explore “How to Share Your Writing” and “How to Revise Your Writing.”
