Cover Reveal: Forever Fries

Cover Reveal: Forever Fries

I’m excited to share the cover art of my debut middle-grade verse novel, Forever Fries, illustrated by the award-winning illustrator and comics creator Jenn Woodall!

It’s coming from Orca Book Publishers on March 16, 2027, and I can’t wait. This book has been a work of love for many years. It’s loosely based on personal and family experiences, although it’s firmly fiction, and it proudly features a protagonist who shares my identity elements. Here’s a blurb:

How can one bite matter so much?

It feels impossible for thirteen-year-old Marley to cross the street and meet her crush, Chloe, at Forever Fries. Not because she’s nervous about the date (although she is), but because fries are on Marley’s No-Eat list. But she made a promise to her eating-disorder therapist to try this forbidden food in a safe situation…with Chloe. As Marley builds up the courage to enter Forever Fries, she is haunted by the memories that shaped her relationship with food. Marley knows she can heal, and maybe today, she can eat one fry.

This middle-grade novel told in verse is a powerful exploration of disordered eating recovery.

I’m honoured by these advanced reviews of my book:

Forever Fries sculpts its own unique space in the novel-in-verse universe. With great empathy and understanding of her subject matter, Karen Krossing portrays Marley’s struggle with disordered eating and body image in a kid-friendly, accessible manner. The playful structure of the narrative, the variety of poetry styles and the well-drawn, authentic characters invite the reader to immerse themselves in Marley’s challenges as well as her joys.”
Cordelia Jensen, author of Lilac and the Switchback

“Forever Fries is a deeply empathetic portrayal of Marley, who faces her eating disorder with bravery and hope.”
Laura Shovan, author of The Last Fifth Grade of Emerson Elementary

Cover Reveal: The Cloud That Stuck

Cover Reveal: The Cloud That Stuck

I’m excited to share Dorothy Leung’s cover art for our picture book The Cloud That Stuck, coming from Charlesbridge Publishing in April 2026!

Some clouds just won’t go away. When one hovers above Tansy’s head, she learns to live with it through love, support, and creative thinking. A timely picture book about mental health, resilience, and change.

Whoosh! On a blustery day, the wind blows a cloud over Tansy’s head, blocking the sun. She yells at the cloud and tries to outrace it on her bike. Her best friend, dad, and teacher try to help get rid of it, but the cloud won’t budge. Then it rains on Tansy, and she forgets what sunshine feels like.

Having a cloud overhead feels like the worst possible thing in the world. Until Tansy gets rain boots and an umbrella. She plays in the puddles with her friends and even plants a garden and waters it with her handy, always present cloud. As Tansy finds ways to live with her cloud, she witnesses that flowers need rain, and so do rainbows.

Inspired by the author’s experiences with mental health, this book is for anyone who has faced challenges beyond their control.

Cover Revel: One Cosmic Rock

I’m excited to share the cover art by Julia Vasileva of our picture book One Cosmic Rock: The Story of the Asteroid That Changed Our World, coming from Owlkids Books on February 17, 2026. Julia illustrated with mixed media, including stencils, ink, collage, and a dash of stardust. This gorgeous book is a companion to One Tiny Bubble: The Story of Our Last Universal Common Ancestor.

Millions of years ago, an asteroid hurtled through space and crashed into Earth. In that moment, life on our planet changed forever. The world burned. Many plant and animal species became extinct. Yet amazingly, some life-forms survived and persisted. Over many, many generations, they evolved into new, diverse life-forms – including humans – that thrive on our planet today.

We already have an expert review of One Cosmic Rock:

This vibrant, engaging book provides the perfect introduction to the last day of the dinosaurs and the resilience of life on Earth.”

Professor Paul M. Barrett, Natural History Museum

Cover Reveal: My Street Remembers

I’m excited to share the cover art by Cathie Jamieson of our picture book My Street Remembers, coming from Groundwood Books in Sept. 2025. This gorgeous book peels back the history of one city street in North America to reveal the greater story of the land on which we live.

Here’s what Cathie has to say about her cover illustration:

“Inspired by the turtle that crosses the land every season, knowing where to nest, when to move inland, and when to return to the waters. The path of the turtle shows the natural patterns of moving and living with the land and waters. Years later these pathways would be the indicator for people to move and flow with the seasonal changes to the land and water for survival. Our footpaths and Indigenous trails became the pathways that gave way to the modern roadways. A reflection on nature’s way of showing you how to navigate the space you now call home.”

We can’t wait to share this book with you!

New Book Deal: My Street Remembers

Have you ever stopped to think about all the footsteps that have walked your street—yesterday, today, and tomorrow? That thinking sparked My Street Remembers, written by me and illustrated by Cathie Jamieson. This lyrical nonfiction picture book is a way to connect and reconcile with the land where we live. It’s also a cross-cultural creative collaboration that I’m grateful to be part of. I’m an author of settler heritage, and Cathie is an Anishinaabe artist of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. Together with Groundwood Books, we’ve created something special that we’re excited to share with you in Fall 2025.

I adore Cathie’s illustrations, including her art installation “The Gathering in Place,” currently on display at the YDZ Experience Centre in Toronto:

Many thanks to my agent Ginger Knowlton of Curtis Brown for all her support!
